Starting July 15th, 39 million families will automatically receive up to $300 a month as part of the expanded Child Tax Credit. But families who haven’t filed their taxes need to take further action to ensure they get these payments. The United State of Women launched the Claim Your Credit campaign to reach 300,000 of these eligible parents who must taken action using the IRS non-filer portal, particularly young mothers of color, through advertising; briefings and support for state and local organizations; and accessible resources to educate and empower women to sign-up for these benefits.
Through the expanded Child Tax Credit, eligible families can receive up to $3,600 a year for each child under the age of 6 and up to $3,000 a year for each child aged 6-17. That means $300 per month for each child under the age of 6 and $250 per month for each child aged 6-17. Most families will automatically receive their monthly payments starting July 15th, but many eligible families still need to take further action to receive the CTC.
These people are eligible for the full Child Tax Credit:
- Married couples with income under $150,000
- Families with a single parent (also called Head of Household) with income under $112,500
- Everyone else with income under $75,000
