Did you know that March 25 – 31 is National Farmworker Awareness Week?
National Farmworker Awareness Week is a week of action for students and community members to raise awareness about farmworker issues on our farms, campuses and in our communities across the country.
ICADV is an active member of the Indiana Migrant and Seasonal Farmworker Coalition (IMSFC) and as members, we regularly attend monthly meetings and participate in IMSFC’s events.
IMSFC’s mission is to work together to improve the quality of life for migrant and seasonal farmworkers in Indiana. The primary objectives of IMSFC are:
- Providing services and information to farmworkers;
- Advocating for farmworker needs;
- Educating the public about the important role migrant and seasonal farmworkers play in Indiana’s economy and communities; and
- Sharing information about trends and conditions affecting farmworkers across the state and around the nation.
In recognition of National Farmworker Awareness Week, IMFSC members are planning a number of events, including:
- Sharing the state proclamation recognizing National Farmworker Awareness Week, March 25 – 31, in Indiana. View photos of the day the resolution was passed.
- Promoting local government proclamations and resolutions recognizing March 25 -31 as National Farmworker Awareness Week and supporting the efforts of IMSFC members in communities across Indiana.
- The 11th Annual Cesar Chavez Celebration Dinner at the Indiana Convention Center, sponsored by IUPUI’s Center for Diversity.
- Jean’s for a Cause: The goal of this event is to bring awareness about the plight of Farmworkers in Indiana to raise support for IMSFC for its work with our famworkers across Indiana. Click the link to learn more.
- Long-Sleeve Shirt Drive: Donate long-sleeve shifts to help protect farmworkers from pesticide exposure and heat-related illnesses. Click the link to learn more and find drop-off locations.
